KindVR was founded in 2014 by Simon Robertson, a game developer and Child Life Volunteer at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. When he discovered no hospitals were using virtual reality despite 20 years of clinical research on VR’s efficacy, he created KindVR to make it easy to provide VR therapy to patients in need.
His key insight was that each VR experience should be developed for a specific hospital procedure or medical condition. Today, all of KindVR’s experiences are clinically validated to demonstrate that they are safe and effective. All of KindVR’s therapies are developed in-house by the KindVR development team.
KindVR’s mission is to help patients mitigate pain and stress by developing virtual reality therapies for specific medical procedures and conditions.
We are a research-based company, partnering with leading US and Canadian hospitals. Our goal is to make it easy for hospitals to provide virtual reality therapy to every patient in need.Today, KindVR has over ten clinical trials underway with leading research hospitals across the US and Canada. KindVR therapy is being tested with patients experiencing mediport access procedures, MRI procedures, emergency room visits, and pre-operative stress.
Beyond the research, many hospitals are using KindVR therapy routinely with their patients.
